If you've ever helped plan a shaadi in your family, you already know the return gifts are where things quietly fall apart, usually right after the caterer drama and just before the seating chart fight. Three hundred guests. Five functions. One aunt who still remembers exactly what she got at your cousin's wedding in 2019.
The usual options don't help much. Steel bowls pile up in cupboards. Sweet boxes are lovely for about two days. So more couples are now handing guests something they'll actually open at home and use: a box of good tea.
So Why Tea, Really?
Start with the obvious bit. Nearly every Indian home drinks tea. Your nani's kitty party friends, your college gang, your dad's old colleagues from the bank. Every one of them has a patila on the gas by 7 am. Compare that with perfume, where you're basically guessing, or a showpiece that ends up behind the TV.
Tea also keeps. It'll sit in a storeroom while you chase the tent wala who isn't answering calls.
And it travels. Your mausi flying back to Dubai can tuck a slim tea box into her cabin bag without a second thought, which nobody has ever said about a kilo of motichoor laddoos.
Not Everyone Gets the Same Box (And That's Okay)
Let's be honest, every family has an A-list and a B-list, even if nobody says it at the dinner table. Tea works for both.
The big reception crowd
For a few hundred guests, keep it neat and light. The Tea Explorers' Collection in a Premium Rigid Box holds 64 enveloped teabags and stacks beautifully on a welcome table. Prefer loose leaf? The Grand Tea Collection comes as a pair of tins in Heritage Black, Botanical Green or Floral Wellness.
Family and the friends who basically lived at your place
These people stayed up till 3 am rehearsing for the sangeet. Give them a keepsake. Our carved wooden caddies, like the Heritage Mandala and the Tree of Life, hold 50 teabags each, and the box stays on a shelf for years. Want more? The Heritage Wooden Chai Hamper comes with masala chai premix and two ceramic cups. Basically an open invitation for chai once the madness ends.
The people who made it all happen
Your planner. The photographer who climbed onto a chair for that one shot. The mehendi didi whose back must have been killing her by the end. For them, a hand-painted ceramic mug with some tea tucked in feels personal in a way an envelope of cash somehow never does.
Put a Bit of the Two of You in It
A plain box is fine. Add your names and the date, though, and people hang on to it. If you're ordering in bulk, ask about personalised tea gifts, maybe a printed label, maybe just a little thank-you note slipped inside. Some couples go further and pick a tea with a story, say the Darjeeling you two kept ordering on that first trip to the hills. Guests won't remember the centrepieces. They might remember that.
Now the boring-but-important bit. Wedding season here runs straight into festive season and every gifting brand gets slammed, so think in weeks, not days. Also order about ten percent more than your final RSVP number, because somebody's cousin always turns up with a plus-one nobody was told about. For bulk, contact our gifting team.

Things Couples Usually Ask Us
Won't tea look too basic as a wedding favour?
Honestly, it comes down to the box. Put it in a carved wooden caddy or a sturdy rigid box and it holds its own next to any mithai dabba, plus people are still using it in February.
How many should we actually order?
Whatever your confirmed headcount is, add about ten percent. If a few are left over, hand them to the cousins who ran around all week. Nobody has ever complained about an extra box of tea.
Can the boxes have our names on them?
They can. On bulk orders Octavius does personalised labels and messages, so just tell the gifting team how many you need and your wedding date, and they'll take it from there.
What do we give the elders who don't take caffeine?
Set aside a few caffeine-free teas for them. Chamomile is a nice one, mild enough that dadi can have a cup after dinner and still sleep fine.
Will everything arrive on time?
Normal orders go out within 24 hours. Wedding orders with personalisation take longer to pack, though, so place yours a few weeks early and you can stop refreshing the tracking page.
